Hacker pirates smart cards
A computer hacker testified on Wednesday that a News Corp unit hired him to develop pirating software, but denied using it to penetrate the security system of a rival satellite television service, says Half Life Source.
Lawyers say the mission was to hack into Dish's satellite network, steal the security code, then flood the market with pirated smart cards costing Dish $900 million in lost revenue and system-repair costs.
After an introduction by plaintiff's attorney Chad Hagan as one of the "two best hackers in the world", Tarnovsky told the court he was paid regularly by Harper Collins, a publishing arm of News Corp, for 10 years.
Visa card gets 2D bar code
UpCode has launched a 2D bar code on a Visa card, says The Wise Marketer.
Its Halpa Halli (a retail chain based in Finland) credit card provides mobile loyalty via the user's Internet-enabled mobile phone, using the UpCode Reader and the UpCode on the Visa card.
Halpa Halli shoppers will be able to use their Halpa Halli Visa cards in real-time to receive store information and incentives that are being offered by scanning the UpCode on cards.
