RIM has rolled out Mobile Voice System 5, which brings VOIP calling over WiFi for enterprise users, states The Register.

The Mobile Voice System integrates with Cisco's Unified Communications Manager and can map a WiFi-connected Blackberry to a desktop phone number.

Blackberry users are able to make calls from any WiFi point as if they were sitting at their desk.

Alianza intros collaborative VOIP forum

Alianza, a provider of hosted voice solutions for 4G broadband operators, has introduced the Accelerate VOIP Ecosystem to speed up service providers' success with VOIP, says TMCnet.

The initiative is expected to help VOIP service providers learn from each other and to leverage market opportunities for sustainable growth.

Scott Bell, Alianza's CTO and chairman of the WiMax Forum's Voice Task Force, says: “The Accelerate VOIP Ecosystem is creating an open forum for cooperation, collaboration and sharing of best practices specifically dedicated to voice over 4G networks”.

Asian seafarers get connected

Smart Link has revealed a telecommunications service for Filipino seafarers using VOIP to make calls wherever they may be overseas, reports Philstar.com.

Filipino seafarers can make calls to any Philippine or international number using a VOIP service called Smart Link NetFone; which is used in areas beyond the reach of landlines and cellular signals.

They can use their existing Smart Link numbers to access both satellite and VOIP services; they do not need to switch SIMs or purchase new electronic load increments.
