RIM explains BlackBerry outage
A problem with a routine upgrade of an internal data-routing system appears to have caused the massive BlackBerry outage for three hours on Monday, says Reuters.
"The upgrade was part of Research In Motion's (RIM) routine and ongoing efforts to increase overall capacity for longer term growth," explained RIM in a statement.
RIM has been adding corporate, government and retail subscribers at a rapid pace and has had to expand its capacity in step to handle increased e-mail and other data traffic. Its total subscriber base sits at about 12 million, according to latest available data.

SGI virtualises migration
SGI's Virtualised Storage Migration Solution enables enterprises to migrate data without interrupting other applications and operations, reports CBR Online.
The application uses LSI Storage virtualisation technology, which allows users to migrate data by indicating source volume and destination storage pool. SGI said rollback capabilities enable IT administrators to recover data from any migration.
Ravi Pendekanti, senior director of worldwide solutions marketing at SGI, said: "Now organisations can move their data to any new storage device without impacting operations and without risking the integrity of their enterprise data."
