Companies using the Avaya Aura 6.1 and Avaya CS1000 Communication Server will soon be able to use RIM's platform.
The mobile company says it's also making the platform available to 'legacy phone systems', including Avaya Communications Manager and Nortel Communications Server.
RIM's Mobile Voice System 5 allows the use of a single BlackBerry smartphone to take and place calls from an employee's mobile phone number as well as their office number.
According to Wireless Federation, BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5 is also currently available for Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Call Manager Express, and Mitel Communications Director.
BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5 has been re-architected to be more extensible with third-party applications and phone systems via SIP and voice over Internet protocol gateways.
A standards compliant and VOIP gateway from AudioCodes has been added to BlackBerry MVS 5 to connect legacy and newer versions of Avaya and Nortel phone systems.
Eric Rossman, the VP, developer relations and alliances Avaya, said in a press release: “Working with RIM, Avaya customers have expanded options to increase their mobile productivity, states IT Pro Portal.
“By using BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5 with Avaya Aura and Avaya CS1000, enterprises can more fully exploit investments previously made in BlackBerry solutions to benefit their IT organisations, end-users and customers,” he added.
