Rimage debuts DVD-R automated publishing

Enterprise storage specialist and member of the Siltek IT Supply Chain, Intelligent Systems (IS), has announced a new publishing product from Rimage Corporation - the first fully DVD-Recordable (DVD-R) recording system.

Gerhard Grundlingh, marketing manager at IS, believes extending Rimage's line of CD-R publishing systems to include DVD-R technology is a logical next step. "The Producer 2000 Protege DVD-R allows small volumes, under 1000, of DVD discs to be easily and efficiently created and printed using a publish-on-demand methodology," he says.

The product is fully automated, features two second-generation Pioneer DVD-R drives, offers a 120-disc capacity and can simultaneously record two unique fully recorded DVD discs per hour. "DVD-Rs with less will naturally be produced proportionally faster," he notes.

The system also includes Rimage's Prism printer, a full-colour thermal transfer printer, and the company's Perfect Image Producer Software Suite - which allows the unit to operate in unattended environments.

"Applications developed for CD-R systems by Rimage partners can also easily be migrated to support DVD-R," adds Grundlingh.

DVD-R discs can store in excess of seven times more data than CD-R discs - an increased capacity that means they can more effectively be used to store video, audio and graphic files, including x-rays, ultrasounds, movies, and large document collections. And since they are the same size as CDs, DVD-R discs are compatible with library and changer mechanisms in use today. "Designed for industrial use, the Protege DVD-R has pushed the envelope of storable data into a new spectrum of multimedia and storage possibilities," concludes Grundlingh.
