Riverbed again recognised as a 'leader' in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization - seven years running

Riverbed is now recognised as a leader in three Gartner Magic Quadrants, and a visionary in another; each solution Is part of the Riverbed Application Performance platform.

Riverbed Technology, the leader in application performance infrastructure, today announced its position as a "Leader" in Gartner's 2014 "Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization."This is the seventh year that Riverbed has been recognised as a leader in the WO Magic Quadrant, and the third Magic Quadrant in which Riverbed holds a leadership position including the Magic Quadrants for Application Performance Monitoring and Network Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics. In addition, Riverbed is positioned as a "visionary" in the 2013 Magic Quadrant for Application Delivery Controllers.

"Riverbed is proud to be recognised by Gartner for the seventh consecutive year as a leader for WAN optimization," said Paul O'Farrell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Steelhead Business Unit. "Steelhead launched the WAN optimisation market 10 years ago and has set the standard for the industry continuously for a decade with over 50% market share and unmatched performance and true ease-of-use. Steelhead is the only app acceleration solution that is part of a complete platform, the Riverbed Application Performance Platform - that detects and helps customers resolve application performance and data delivery issues before an end user even notices a problem or calls the help desk to complain."

According to Gartner "most networks carry a variety of traffic types of differing characteristics and importance, and many organisations are striving to manage this traffic to optimise the response times of critical applications and reduce costs, given that bandwidth continues to represent a significant proportion of operating expenditure for wide-area data networks". In response, "the WAN optimisation market remains dynamic, with new solutions to support various cloud solutions for SaaS and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) deployments, broader support for virtual WOC solutions and a general decline in WAN bandwidth pricing."

Leading the way to location-independent computing

In today's digital, global, mobile, disaggregated business world, business performance is dependent on application performance. If applications don't work, employees can't work. Products don't get developed, produced or shipped. Sales can't connect with customers and partners can't log deals. Customer service falls short and clients are unhappy. The role of IT is to keep people productive by delivering the applications and data that employees, partners and customers need to do their work and keep business moving forward.

However, delivering these trillions of computer and data loads back and forth across thousands of networked miles simply can't be done unless three fundamental problems are solved: latency, bandwidth and visibility. Riverbed solves these related problems with a suite of solutions that, as shown by market-share leadership, industry awards and strength of customer testimonials, is arguably the technology industry's strongest set of products fielded by one company.

For over 10 years, Riverbed has been driving the success of its customers by optimising business-critical applications that must perform consistently across a global footprint. Riverbed pioneered WAN optimisation in 2004 with unique innovations for application and data streamlining across the WAN and Internet to deliver the best end-user experience regardless of location, network or device while dramatically reducing network bandwidth. Today, Steelhead is the industry's number one WAN optimisation solution that accelerates the delivery of applications to the branch and from the cloud and allows IT to prioritise delivery of mission-critical applications over the fastest networks. With Steelhead, SaaS apps can be delivered up to 33 times faster while using 97% less bandwidth. As a result, Steelhead has become critical to Microsoft Office 365 deployments with over one million users being accelerated to date.

Riverbed Steelhead combines with the full Riverbed portfolio in the Riverbed Application Performance Platform, the most complete platform for location-independent computing. In addition to Steelhead, the platform includes:

* Riverbed Granite - the only branch converged infrastructureproduct that delivers local performance while enabling data centralisation, instant recovery and lower TCO; named InfoWorld Technology of the Year two years running.
* Riverbed(R) Stingray - the number one virtual application delivery controller (ADC) for scalable, secure and elastic delivery of enterprise, cloud and e-commerce applications; a "visionary" in Gartner's 2013 Magic Quadrant for Application Delivery Controllers.
* Riverbed Performance Management - the only performance management suite that combines user experience, application and network performance management to detect and help customers resolve issues before end-users notice; as a "Leader" in the 2013 Magic Quadrant for Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and the 2014 Magic Quadrant for Network Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics (NPDM), Riverbed is the only "Leader" in boththe NPMD and APM Magic Quadrants.

Each Riverbed product is a solution for a specific challenge that, when used together, become a strategic enterprise solution that solves the pervasive challenges of latency, bandwidth and visibility in globally networked IT. The Riverbed Application Performance Platform gives companies the flexibility to host applications and data in locations that best serve the business while ensuring the flawless delivery of those apps to better leverage global resources, radically reduce the cost of running their business and maximise customer satisfaction.
