Riverbed's new cloud platform

Wide-area network company Riverbed Technologies has revealed its plans for a new service directed at Web services, states V3.

The company said the new public cloud platform would include services designed to speed up the performance of applications and storage platforms based on the Web. While no pricing or release dates have been given, the company said the first service would be based on its Steelhead appliance.

Riverbed senior product marketing director, Apura Dav'e, says the cloud service essentially removes the software layer from Steelhead and optimises it for Web usage. "It is a natural extension of what we are doing today," says Dav'e.

Telepresence, a logical derivative of the telephone, is an emerging technology that can enable a human to perform physical work, or take action, at a remote location, says EETimes.

Telepresence could be developed to enable a human on Earth to function in, and experience, a distant space environment such as Mars as effectively, for all practical purposes, as actually going there, but without going there.
