Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD), a member of the Siltek IT supply chain, has launched the Zoom/PC Card 56K dual mode modem - a PCMCIA (PC Card) Fax Modem for notebooks, palmtops, PDAs or any computer with a PCMCIA Type 2 slot.
"Sharing the same dual mode technology as the desktop and ISA card models, the Zoom/PC Card 56K obtains a connection and automatically negotiates transmission speeds using ITU V.90, K56Flex, V.34, ITU or Bell standard protocols," explains SDD product manager, Clinton Henning.
Unlike modems that require a 'flash' upgrade to V.90, the Zoom/PC Card 56K dual mode provides immediate access to either V.90 or K56flex . It features a rugged connector design with a slim cord and a built-in DAA phone line interface, plus the latest MNP10EC Enhanced Cellular Technology.
"Class 1 and 2 fax compatibility means transmissions can be made at 14,400 bps to any modem or fax machine," Henning comments. "A real plus if you spend a lot of time on the road."
Support for point-to-point video telephony, with V.80 capability, and Internet applications such as video conferencing add further value to this device.
"Another key feature is ZoomGuard - lightning and surge protection against the most common cause of modem failure in the field. ZoomGuard is designed to sense and divert excessive current before the fax modem can be damaged," says Henning.
Notebook battery power is conserved through the sleep mode functionality. "If the fax modem is in sleep mode it 'wakes up' whenever activity is sensed."
To round off the Zoom/PC Card 56K package, a fax and data software bundle for PCs and Macintosh computers is available along with a memory saving enabler.
The Zoom 56k Dualmode PC Card is Telkom Approved.
