RSA, the security division of EMC, has collaborated with a host of mobile technology companies, in a move to implement strong authentication in mobile use.
Tom Corn, RSA's chief strategy officer, said developers and providers of next-generation mobile platforms and applications, including Appcelerator, Citrix, FeedHenry, Good Technology, Juniper Networks, VMware and Zscaler, are all collaborating with RSA.
According to Corn, the collaborations aim to build additional layers of security and access control into next-generation mobile solutions.
“The rapid adoption of smartphones and tablets among consumers and employees has ushered in a new set of security and data privacy challenges for organisations,” he said.
He explained that organisations should, therefore, rethink their security policies to counter the challenges posed by increased mobile usage.
Corn pointed out that, for application access, these challenges are divided into two core categories - remote access to a corporate network from a mobile device, and ensuring trusted access to an explosion of new applications purpose-built for mobile platforms.
According to RSA, Citrix has embedded RSA mobile authentication technologies into Citrix Receiver together with Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenApp.
The company also notes that Juniper Networks has agreed to deploy RSA's mobile authentication technologies into its Junos Pulse VPN solution for mobile remote access to corporate resources. The companies have also agreed to collaborate further to allow Junos Pulse to authenticate native mobile application access, Corn added.
Appcelerator and RSA will collaborate on integrating RSA mobile authentication technology into the Titanium mobile application platform.
Further, cloud provider FeedHenry and RSA will work together on exposing RSA mobile authentication technology from the cloud provider's mobile application platform as a service solution.
VMware and RSA have enhanced the existing integration of RSA authentication technologies in the newest version of VMware View virtual desktop solutions for mobile devices.
