SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group and the distributor for RSA Security products in Sub-Saharan Africa, today announced the latter's series of financial institutions that are offering worldwide online banking customers the RSA SecurID two-factor authentication solution to help protect against account fraud, phishing and other online security threats.
These organisations selected the RSA Consumer Account Protection solution because of its ease of use, ease of deployment and ability to deliver substantially increased levels of security for online transactions.
These customers join a portfolio of worldwide financial institutions, such as American Bank, Credit Suisse, E*TRADE Financial and Stonebridge Bank, that offer RSA Consumer Account Protection to online banking customers. New customers deploying RSA Consumer Account Protection solutions include:
* Banorte: One of the premier banks in Mexico and the first to offer two-factor authentication to customers for online banking, Banorte was recently awarded 'Best Bank in Mexico' by Banker Magazine. Banorte has deployed over 230 000 RSA SecurID tokens; of these, 80 000 are for corporate account-holders who have been using the tokens for the past five years.
* Banco Davivienda S.A: Located in Bogota, Colombia, Banco Davivienda is the third largest bank in the country with more than 2.2 million customers. The bank authenticates more than 23 000 online logins a month using RSA SecurID tokens.
* FirstCaribbean International Bank: Located in 16 countries throughout the Caribbean, FirstCaribbean International Bank is one of the largest financial institutions in the region. The bank is deploying a large number of tokens to Internet banking customers to secure access to fund transfers and other services.
* National Bank of Abu Dhabi: The first bank in the Middle East to supply two-factor authentication to its online banking customers, National Bank of Abu Dhabi is deploying over 19 000 customised RSA SecurID tokens to online banking customers.
* ProCreditBank: A development-oriented full-service bank located in Germany and focused on lending to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, ProCredit Bank selected RSA SecurID technology to shield its online banking customers in Kosovo from fraud and phishing attacks.
* UniCredit Banca: The leading bank in Italy and one of the top-ranking banks in Europe, UniCredit is planning to deploy RSA SecurID tokens to over 500 000 of its online banking customers.
The rise in popularity of online banking has been a boon to the world's banking industry. However, studies have shown that consumers are concerned about identity theft and online fraud, and would be willing to transact more online if stronger authentication measures were provided. RSA Consumer Account Protection solution addresses these needs, eliminating vulnerable passwords and protecting consumers online.
"After a thorough review of the two-factor authentication market, we chose the RSA SecurID solution because it is so reliable, cost-effective and easy to integrate with our existing information technology systems," commented Alejandro Patino, chief information security officer at Banco Davivienda S.A. "It has helped instil confidence in our online banking customers and helped us optimise internal processes resulting in help-desk cost reductions. We expect that RSA Security will serve us well in the future, even as two-factor technology changes and gets more sophisticated."
"It is well known that online banking customers are willing to move to a different banking institution if their current bank is not taking prudent steps to protect their confidential banking information. Strongly authenticating customers is a key stepping stone to properly protecting information and retaining customers," added Alessandro Colafranceschi, head of online banking at UniCredit Banca.
"We chose RSA Security's consumer account protection solution because we wanted to offer our customers a proven but progressive security solution that was also convenient: simple for our customers to use and easy for us to integrate and deploy. RSA Security delivered on these requirements."
"Online attacks are becoming more sophisticated and consumers are feeling less confident in conducting transactions online. But steps can be taken to effectively protect their personal and financial information and bolster their confidence," added Chris Young, vice-president of consumer authentication at RSA Security.
"RSA Security offers organisations convenient solutions that will not only help customers overcome these fears and take advantage of all that online banking has to offer, but that will also easily fit into their everyday lifestyle."
