SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group and the distributor for RSA Security products in Sub-Saharan Africa, today announced that the latter's RSA BSAFE Crypto-C Micro Edition 1.9 encryption software has received Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 validation with certificate 508.
This validation, which encompasses 12 different platforms, signifies that RSA BSAFE Crypto-C Micro Edition conforms to the FIPS 140-2 Level 1 security requirements for cryptographic modules, which is required before any cryptographic product can be used by US federal departments or agencies.
This broad platform availability helps ensure the widest range of government applications will be able to benefit from the time and cost savings associated with a FIPS 140-2 validated module.
"RSA BSAFE Crypto-C Micro Edition software is designed to provide high performance, interoperable security software that meets the evolving security needs of the US Federal government," commented Rick Welch, vice-president, Developer Solutions and Professional Services, at RSA Security.
"RSA Security's broad platform support and continuous updates to our cryptography products, particularly in terms of leveraging the evolving FIPS standard, helps enable our customers to deliver compliant products to market more quickly than would be possible with open source and other competing offerings."
RSA BSAFE Micro Edition software is designed to offer developers the ability to rapidly add cryptographic security to wireless or embedded solutions while maximising an organisation's security investment by ensuring interoperability with the existing wired infrastructure. The smaller code size of RSA BSAFE Crypto-C ME makes it suitable for a wide range of software and embedded hardware applications in military and civilian environments. Unlike open source alternatives, RSA BSAFE Crypto-C ME is supported by a wide range of customisation and other professional support services, as well as frequent updates to ensure compatibility and compliance. RSA BSAFE technology has been used by more than 1 000 organisations to reduce risk by helping to ensure their sensitive customer and partner information remains private and their critical business transactions remain trusted and secure.
RSA BSAFE developer solutions are among the most widely used e-security tools in the world, helping companies to quickly and cost-effectively build state-of-the-art encryption and digital signing technology into many business applications, including Web browsers, wireless devices, commerce servers, e-mail systems and VPNs. RSA BSAFE encryption software can save organisations time and risk in their development schedules and deliver high-performance security and cutting-edge cryptographic enhancements.
