RSA Security has revealed its [RC2] two-factor user authentication solution for controlling access to Windows 2000-based networks, IIS Web servers and desktops.
An important third-party security product included on the Windows 2000 CD, the free RSA ACE/Agent for Windows 2000, is designed to make it easy for companies to reduce risks associated with conducting electronic business. RSA Security extends the native security in Windows 2000 with RSA SecurID authenticators, one of the most popular two-factor user authentication tools on the market.
The RSA ACE/Agent for Windows 2000 works with RSA ACE/Server authentication management software and RSA SecurID authenticators, which are designed to ensure that only authorised users can gain access to sensitive information stored in the corporate network, intranet or extranet.
These products are designed to deliver the additional layer of security that businesses need to protect IIS Web servers, local desktop log on, and the Routing and Remote Access Service used for dial-up or VPN access to their network. [RC3] Through its support of the Windows 2000 authentication provider interfaces, RSA ACE/Agent is designed to deliver turnkey protection for a broad range of dial-up and VPN options and to integrate seamlessly with the Microsoft Management Console (MMC), the preferred method of managing Windows 2000-based systems.
"Microsoft takes security very seriously and strong authentication is a key aspect of a total solution," said Ron Cully, lead product manager, Windows 2000 networking, Microsoft Corp. "The extensible authentication system built into Windows 2000 is designed to let customers choose multifactor authentication to help secure remote access, VPN connections and other network services."
"RSA ACE/Agent for Windows 2000 reaffirms our dedication to extending our solution suite and developing products for all major platforms," said Sharon Hedges, marketing manager, Europe, Middle East & Africa at RSA Security. "It is designed to enable the existing installed base of more than 6 million RSA SecurID users to easily extend their existing security to protect Windows 2000."
RSA SecurID solutions provide centrally managed, strong, two-factor user authentication services for enterprise networks, operating systems, e-commerce Web sites and other IT infrastructure, designed to ensure that only authorised users access data, applications and communications. Supporting a range of authentication devices, including hardware tokens, key fobs, smart cards and software tokens, RSA SecurID solutions are intended to create a virtually impenetrable barrier against unauthorised access, protecting network and data resources from potentially devastating accidental or malicious intrusion. RSA SecurID installations are managed through RSA ACE/Server authentication management software, providing the ability to scale deployments in the hundreds of thousands of users.
RSA SecurID is a multi-platform solution that is designed to protect network operating systems, perimeter devices, Web applications and legacy systems. By adding support for Windows 2000, RSA Security further protects their customer`s investment in RSA SecurID and RSA ACE/Server.
