Marketing manager Charles Odendaal says Rumba will begin offering the service to users on 1 May.
We hope to have signed up 50 000 users by the end of the year.

"We are offering dial-up or ISDN Internet access, unlimited e-mail addresses with ten megabytes per e-mail address, virus scanning on e-mail, Web mail and POP 3 e-mail for R49 a month. In addition, we will be hosting websites for companies and private users for R150 per month for 100 megabytes of disk space, with a domain registration cost of R300," he says.
The reason Rumba is able to undercut its competitors` offerings, according to Odendaal, is that it has chosen to reduce its margins while still offering a quality service in keeping with its motto of providing Internet access for everybody.
"The charge for Internet access of R49 will not be an introductory price. By offering the service at R49 a month, Rumba aims to stay ahead of our competitors in providing sufficient fairly priced bandwidth to its users. In doing so we hope to have signed up 50 000 users by the end of the year."
Rumba`s Internet provider is Telkom and its backbone infrastructure is being provided by Telkom VIP and SAIX, which means users will always pay a local call to connect to the Internet from anywhere in SA, Odendaal says.
There is no time span on a Rumba contract so users will be able to cancel the debit order on their account at any time. Odendaal says Rumba will also offer prepaid Internet access cards in future, giving access for 30, 60 and 90 days.
Rumba will also run a sales scheme in which users can register as agents to sell the service and receive R4 a month for every user they recruit for as long as that user stays signed up for Internet access.
