Rwanda, Zambia adopt IP tech

For the first time, Rwanda and Zambia are broadcasting presidential campaigns and parliamentary polls using IP (Internet Protocol) teleconferencing technology and Internet broadcasting technologies, says Network World.

Rwanda is also installing the technology in all of the country's public institutions to enable videoconferencing of meetings, while the Zambian government is installing it in major across the country to help doctor and students consult with one another remotely.

IP teleconferencing technology has been deployed by the Rwanda IT Authority (RITA) to broadcast election proceedings on television. In Zambia, station Q-FM is broadcasting via Internet and satellite.

Networking, storage converge

BRCM, provider in semiconductors for wired and communications, has revealed it is the first to demonstrate 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) iSCSI host bus adapter (HBA) functionality, along with converged networking and storage functionality, within VMware virtualised server environments, says Market Watch.

These capabilities will be demonstrated at the VMworld 2008 exhibition on Broadcom NetXtreme II.

In addition, Broadcom is working with VMware to provide support for VMware virtualisation, including advanced networking features such as NetQueue and VMDirectPath.

Oracle upgrades communications server

Oracle has released the Oracle Communications Converged Application Server 4.0, states eWeek.

Oracle Communications Converged Application Server 4.0 provides high levels of availability and reliability through clustering, replication and geographic redundancy, which enables service providers to eliminate single points of failure, in case of catastrophic failures in one or more nodes in their telecommunications networks.

The product, formerly named BEA WebLogic SIP Server, which was attained in Oracle's acquisition of BEA Systems, enables network operators, network equipment providers, systems integrators and independent software vendors to develop, deliver and operate real-time, multimedia communications services.
