Rwandan schools get digital
Primary and secondary schools in Rwanda are to adopt a digitalised curriculum to enhance the memorability of learning materials, says allAfrica.com.
This was revealed by the Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, Th'eoneste Mutsindashyaka.
The initiative is a move away from traditional chalk and blackboard methodology towards using ICT in curriculum development and transmission to learners.
Nigeria loses millions
About $240 million was lost to internet fraudsters in 2007 only, a $40 million increase over reported losses in 2006, says Daily Trust.
Disclosing this in Lagos at the weekend, the MD of a Lagos-based IT security firm Global InfoSwift, Solomon Edun, said theft and other fraudulent practices being committed online is increasing by the day in Nigeria.
According to Edun, Nigeria is the third of the top 10 countries which are highly susceptible to fraudulent attacks through electronic mails and Web pages.
Botswana clamps down on fraud
According to Mmegi Online, registration of all prepaid cellphone SIM cards starts on 15 September, the Botswana Telecommunications Authority (BTA) has said.
The exercise will be completed in 17 months and those who would not have registered their SIM cards by then will be disconnected. They will be required to purchase new ones. The registration exercise will run until 31 December 2009.
BTA chief executive Thari Pheko, said at a press conference that the registration will involve taking the identity details of the owner of the SIM card. He said the registration will serve to help in the fight against crime.
