SA Golf Development Board cuts document costs with Xerox sponsorship

Johannesburg, 11 Jul 2005

Bytes Document Solutions, the sole authorised Xerox distributor for sub-Saharan Africa, has committed itself to the sponsorship of office automation equipment for the South African Golf Development Board.

The sponsorship includes the supply of equipment to be used in several of the board`s 12 offices throughout the country.

"As the board is a Section 21, non-governmental organisation devoted to the development of golf in SA, the money it was spending on office automation can be put to better use," says Ashley Groenendaal, sales and marketing support manager at Bytes Document Solutions.

"Our sponsorship now enables the board to channel that money into areas where it can directly and positively impact on the board`s activities. Bytes Document Solutions and Xerox are proud to be associated with golf development in SA."

The South African Golf Association and the South African Ladies Golf Union, in accordance with the 1995 National Department of Sport and Recreation White Paper, supported the establishment of the board in 1999.

The department believes that laying the foundation for a culture of sport and recreation requires a conscious effort and firm commitment from government, non-governmental organisations, the private sector, and South African society in general. It therefore requires the country`s sporting federations to become involved in the development of sports at grassroots level.

"Since our inception, we have worked towards growing the game and building the nation," says Dr Bernhard Nagel, CEO of the Golf Development Board. "We continue to discover and develop talented players, many of whom have gone on to represent their provinces and country. Through our intervention, 16-year-old Siviwe Duma has been selected as a reserve for a test match to be played in Holland in July. Over the past few years the Ernie Els Foundation has also taken 11 of our children under its wing. We are also concentrating on improving the skill and knowledge of our coaches by offering them the opportunity to work towards a SAQA-accredited tertiary certificate and coaching qualifications approved by the PGA. We are the first sport in SA to offer this type of accredited education to the coaches responsible for hands-on development work."
