Two of MultiChoice Africa`s Interactive television services have been placed among the top three entries in the inaugural AFDESI ITV Interactive Awards.
The Big Brother II Interactive service was placed in the top three entrants in the Best Enhanced Television Service category, while the Brain vs Brawn quiz was placed in the top three entrants in the Best Interactive Game or Interactive Entertainment Service category.
"Our interactive services were up against very stiff competition from across the world," says Richard Fyffe, GM of Interactive at MultiChoice Africa.
While most of the competition had access to multimillion-dollar budgets, MultiChoice chose to approach its interactive services from an innovative point of view rather than simply "throw money at the development of interactive services".
The Brains vs Brawn quiz ran 24x7 on a dedicated DStv channel. It included information on prizes, rules and dedicated sponsor pages.
The quiz posed 10 multiple-choice entertainment-based questions. When six or more were answered correctly, a secret code was displayed, which had to be called in to an interactive voice response line to enter the lucky draw competition.
The Big Brother II Interactive service was available 24x7 from a dedicated channel on DStv. The service provided the viewer with additional video, audio and content on the event, as well as an opportunity to vote for contestants via the modem return path. An SMS scrollbar across the bottom of the service allowed viewers to voice their opinions about the show.
Fyffe says MultiChoice`s drive towards innovation in interactive services will see it announcing possible world-first developments soon.
