SA tech powers UK portal

Local online job portal CareerJunction has teamed up with Tiscali UK and i2i Services (UK) to provide the Tiscali UK portal with a job listing board for the UK market.

"In this new offering, each player offers a critical service that melds into a package deal, targeting job-seekers as well as job boards," says CareerJunction MD Kris Jarzebowski.

The portal and community reach are provided by Tiscali UK, while i2i Services develops e-recruitment solutions for companies and job boards. CareerJunction provided the back-end job search and matching technology.

"It is a case of playing to our strengths in a widening global market," Jarzebowski says. "i2i Services provides technology to filter job content, as well as sales and marketing advice on the UK market, whereas CareerJunction has advanced search and matching technology that has been proven in the South African market."

He says the portal is based on an aggregation model in terms of which the technology allows many job boards to focus into a mass audience portal. The revenue model, he says, is unique.

Jobs sent in by job boards are checked and filtered for quality, duplication and errors. Search results then list a pr'ecis of each job found.

"Only when the job pr'ecis is clicked by the job-seeker is the full job ad displayed, and that`s when the revenue model clicks in. Each job board only pays for each click that the job-seeker makes."

There are now more than 80 000 jobs aggregated onto the portal, which Jarzebowski says makes it one of the largest job boards in the UK. "The number of clicks has increased a hundredfold since its launch and keeps growing," he says.
