Huawei CarFi converts vehicles into WiFi hotspots on wheels, and is compatible with all car models that have a cigarette lighter or in-car charging outlet.
Steven Liu, Huawei VP of mobile broadband and home products, says: "Automotive connectivity, known in the industry as telematics, is a significant trend that will provide safety, convenience, and infotainment in the future."
CarFi is said to deliver download speeds of up to 150Mbps and connectivity for up to 10 devices and can be transferred from one vehicle to another.
Other benefits of the device include parking assist, emergency rescue, vehicle issue diagnosis, hands-free speech recognition, real time highway condition updates, and driving behavior pattern identification. It can also act as a charger for other electronic devices, while the car is running.
The device does not contain a battery, meaning it is protected against overheating in hot climates, and has a built-in self-regulating temperature protection function that automatically lowers the temperature of the device when necessary.
