SABS protects with Sophos

Johannesburg, 07 Aug 2002

NetXactics, the local distributor for Sophos, a world leader in corporate anti-virus protection, today announced that the The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) has renewed its Sophos Anti-Virus licence for a further year.

Sophos is used nationally to protect all the servers and desktops in the mixed Novell and Citrix environment at SABS. In addition, the Sophos Anti-Virus Interface (SAVI) integrates seamlessly with its Novell GroupWise email application using GWAVA (GroupWise AntiVirus Agent) as an e-mail scanner.

"It is essential that all of our offices are able to communicate effectively and that the data we maintain is not compromised. SABS is also implementing SABS ISO/IEC 17799 at the moment. This is an information security management system that, when implemented effectively, ensures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of both vital corporate information and customer information. Virus protection is a key component of this system," commented Jakkie Pretorius, Network Specialist at the SABS.

"Our priorities include fast and effective protection combined with accessible technical support. NetXactics together with the Sophos products best fulfilled these needs, and hence our decision to renew our licences for another year."

"Sophos is designed as a pure network product", added Brett Myroff, CEO of NetXactics, "Thus, there is no problem in deploying and maintaining Sophos at the SABS in their mixed WAN-connected Novell, Citrix and Microsoft environment.

"As Sophos only requires a small footprint, negligible resources are required for the software and the update size is kept extremely small," concluded Myroff. "Sophos is ideally suited to this type of network architecture."
