SafeBoot worldwide reseller of Kobil mIDentity USB device with smart card technology

Johannesburg, 20 Mar 2007

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for SafeBoot, today announced the latter has extended its collaboration with Kobil, a German manufacturer of base technology in the area of smart cards, one-time password systems and digital certificates.

According to the recently reached agreement, SafeBoot will market Kobil's USB smart card-based solution, mIDentity Basic, worldwide.

Kobil has already been certified for the SafeBoot Certified Token Partner Programme; Kobil products seamlessly integrate with SafeBoot.

mIDentity Basic solves the conflict between the requirement of high mobility and high security. The device, in addition to the smart card reader, includes an integrated flash memory which enables the user to carry data in a highly secure and convenient manner.

Furthermore, the user can execute applications residing on the device, or can get access to his office environment from any place in the world.

mIDentity Basic can be used on any available Windows PC; no driver or software installation is required. The product represents therefore an excellent platform for mobile business applications. It has also been evaluated in many sectors. These evaluations concluded that mIDentity Basic is one of the most secure products of its type available on the market.

"mIDentity Basic is a logical addition to our assortment of SafeBoot for USB products," commented Tom de Jongh, Product Manager at SafeBoot. "There is a high demand for a secure USB storage device based on smart card technology that works without a driver. mIDentity Basic allows users to carry and access data easily and safely, independently of their working environment. SafeBoot for USB Phantom works without drivers, but does not offer the security level provided through a smart card. In particular, the governments as well as the banking and insurance world see the smart card technology as the ultimate form of security since the encryption keys are stored in the smart card chip."

mIDentity Basic, apart from being a secure means for data storage, offers the businesses an option to extend their existing SafeBoot hard disk encryption or content encryption solution, which gives the users access to secure systems by means of a password, with a certificate-based, secure log-in procedure.

"We are very pleased to collaborate with SafeBoot," added Dr Andreas Meyer, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Kobil. "The company has an excellent reputation as a supplier of powerful, user-friendly encryption products. SafeBoot also has a worldwide sales network we can now use indirectly to continue increasing the worldwide availability of Kobil products."
