If you're thinking about setting up a business, one of the most important factors to consider early on is how your customers will be able to pay you.
The Internet has had a major impact on the way in which businesses trade and consumers shop. So you know that you want to set up a business and need a choice of payment methods to enable your customers to purchase goods and services in a quick, easy and convenient way. But with so much jargon-heavy information how exactly do you go about it?

Taking payments
Keeping card data secure
There are a number of suppliers offering payment processing services. With Sage Pay, the emphasis is on ease of use. The simpler you can make it for your customers to pay, the more likely they will purchase through your site.
First step: The big three
There are three big 'must-haves' before you can take any type of card payment online. These are:
1. A Sage Pay merchant account
2. A Payment Gateway
3. A Business bank account
1. Obtaining a Sage Pay merchant account
A Sage Pay account fulfils a different function to a main business account. Essentially, it allows you to accept card payments online. It's your merchant account that hold funds until they are cleared and ready to be transferred into your main bank account. With Sage Pay, irrespective of the bank you choose to proceed with, you will always only have one account to process payments, collect debit order or process credit data solutions.
2. Selecting a payment gateway
In order to capture and transmit card data, you will need a Sage Pay account. For security reasons, you cannot or should not, capture and transmit card data yourself. It is simply too risky to manage payment transactions this way.
At Sage Pay we are here to help you set up your account, including guiding you through the process of setting up your online store.
3. A business bank account
This is where the funds taken online will be deposited, pending the transfer of funds via your Sage Pay account.
