Sahara gears up for feverish new racing season

Johannesburg, 28 Feb 2005

Sahara Production Car Championship, an ultra-competitive category in SA racing's Vodacom Power Tour, has blasted off in style. Local information and communications technology supplier Sahara Computers celebrated the launch of the new season as well as the company's long-term, multimillion-rand sponsorship agreement towards the tour with an adrenalin-filled day of racing over the weekend.

The sponsorship has clearly opened up the field of participating manufacturers and the competition is vigorous. BMW led the pack in Class A, with Alfa in close chase and spectators were treated to an action-packed heat with Minis going head-to-head.

A number of new motoring manufacturers, including Nissan and Audi, have renewed their participation. According to Atul Gupta, MD of Sahara Computers, this should really add to the excitement of local racing.

"We are very pleased to be a part of this exciting sport and contribute towards its growth and development. It is always positive when the field is strengthened with additional competition," says Gupta.

"The sponsorship is a powerful opportunity for Sahara to gain further exposure in the local market and develop greater interest in our core offering which is ICT and digital lifestyle technology of the highest quality. As a Proudly South African company, we are mindful of our responsibility to help sustain community development and contribute meaningfully towards the enrichment of the lives of our valued customers, partners and investors."

The next race is scheduled for 2 April at Killarney. For more information, click through to www.powertour.co.za or www.sahara.co.za.
