Sahara Group appoints deputy managing director

Johannesburg, 12 Jan 2006

Gary Naidoo, Sahara Group marketing director, has been appointed as the company's deputy managing director.

Naidoo has served the company for almost three years, heading up and coordinating its marketing division.

The company's core focus is on the supply of affordable, reliable and accessible technology. Its main objective, from the outset, says Naidoo, has been to raise the profile across the African and global information and communications technology supply market.

Based on the success of its growth strategy, management decided to strengthen this important area of business and will draw on Naidoo's experience within the field of corporate marketing and direction, incorporating strategy to market, brand awareness and growth initiatives.

"Sahara Computers has experienced substantial growth of late. The brand is now established in South Africa, within emerging markets across North East West Africa and has entered successfully within global markets including the United Arab Emirates and India. With this in mind, and in order to further leverage off this growth and sustain levels of development, innovation and the supply of exciting solutions, we have decided to expand Mr Naidoo's portfolio. We are delighted about this new appointment and we are excited about the prospects for the company going forward," says Atul Gupta, MD of Sahara Computers.

In his new capacity as deputy managing director, Naidoo will retain focus on the company's contribution towards the digital lifestyle market and related products and infrastructure. He will also consolidate corporate strategy to improve market share and ensure levels of supply to existing and emerging markets.

"Our main objective is to raise our current levels of service by reinforcing our existing service delivery model, incorporating initiatives and benefits such as the national channel partner programme, enhanced warranty programme, help-desk and customer care line, among others," says Naidoo. "I am very excited about my appointment and look forward to the challenges and responsibility it brings."

In line with the company's growth and expansion plan, Ronica Govender, currently the finance manager, has also been appointed as a director within the group. "I am deeply thankful after being with Sahara for six years. My appointment only goes to show that hard work and loyalty is rewarded at Sahara," says Govender. In other movements, Selvin Kristnen will step down as director in the Sahara group to pursue other interests.
