Local PC brand, Sahara Computers, has earned Proudly South African (PSA) accreditation. PSA is an initiative launched by government, business, labour and community organisations to boost job creation by promoting South African companies and South African made products.
"Sahara Computers has fulfilled all the required PSA criteria to become part of the campaign. This allows the company to use the Proudly South African logo on its products and marketing media and to enjoy all the benefits associated with this brand," says Martin Feinstein, chief executive of PSA.
Atul Gupta, MD of Sahara Computers, says: "We are excited to be involved in an initiative that aims to drive the increased production of local goods, improve economic growth in SA, fight poverty, stimulate job creation and encourages synergies between other PSA members."
PSA acceptance criteria demand that a significant percentage of the cost of the production of Sahara PCs is incurred in SA and that they are high quality products produced in environmentally friendly production processes. The company also has to adhere to fair labour standards in line with SA's transformation policies.
"Consumers can be re-assured that Sahara's products are of the highest quality. Every time consumers purchase a product with the PSA logo, they are making a vital personal contribution - not just to creating jobs in SA, but also to quality improvement and a sense of pride in our new nation," says Feinstein.
"Through our many IT sponsorships and community initiatives throughout the year, Sahara is continuously reinforcing its commitment to the transformation of SA. Sahara recognises its role as a socially responsibly business entity and that governments alone are unable to provide the resources needed to address the economic and socio-economic issues in the country. We are proud to be Proudly South African," says Gupta.
The PSA accreditation allows Sahara Computers to link its products to the PSA campaign which encourages consumers and business buyers to support PSA companies and products. The company will have PSA support when tendering for private and public sector business, and will be given exposure through the PSA Web site, product listings, publications and public relations activities.
Sahara also has access to free attendance at PSA workshops designed to assist with growth and business success - topics include: tendering skills, export skills and promotions. The company receives free listing in the organisation's "PSA Buyers Guide", a book listing members and their products that is distributed to buyers and tender offices in government and in the private sector.
