Sahara signals its intention to supply Africa

Johannesburg, 18 Apr 2005

Sahara Computers has unveiled a number of prominent billboards in several key regions throughout Africa in a bid to attract additional business interest and further entrench its presence within this market.

The billboards have been strategically positioned to target consumers within Kenya, Tanzania and Botswana and represent a significant part of the company's overall multi-media marketing drive aimed at elevating the profile of the brand and attracting new partners across the continent.

Atul Gupta, MD at Sahara Computers, believes the aggressive two-pronged advertising and marketing strategy will help the company achieve its objective in what he describes as largely untapped markets.

"Our strategy is targeted at a wide audience including consumers and business investors. Whilst it would be fair to describe it as aggressive, it is also focused and clearly designed to generate greater awareness of the company and its product line," says Gupta. "Our objective with our product offering and the branches that we have established in parts of the continent is to meet the demand for ICT infrastructure and address key issues that local communities face, namely: access to reliable technology, integration and implementation of updated systems and the latest hardware and software, availability of resources and general infrastructure."

The task of actively marketing the company's Proudly South African PC brand in order to recruit country managers and eventually fully-fledged partners has been assigned to NEWCA (North East West Central Africa) Managing Director Mujtaba Jaffer.

Gupta shares Jaffer's readiness to explore the opportunity that lies in the mobile and wireless environment and telecommunications market within Africa.

"There is most definitely a significant opportunity to leverage off these markets. Sahara Computers has the breadth and depth of mobile and wireless product to enhance the digital experience of consumers. The entire focus on Africa is being managed through our Pan African Distribution model. The network of interested businesses and potential partners that we have already created will go a long way to help country managers further the business. Although there remains a great deal of work to be done, I believe we are on the right track," Gupta concludes.
