Local PC manufacturer Sahara Computers has signed a distribution agreement with Maxtor Corporation, a leading manufacturer of hard disk drives (HDDs), extending Maxtor product availability in sub-Saharan Africa.
Atul Gupta, MD of Sahara Computers, says the agreement offers Sahara access to Maxtor's full line of SCSI, parallel and serial ATA hard disk products as well as Maxtor's retail-focused external hard drives and storage in southern Africa.
Herve Barcelo, Maxtor sales and marketing director: EMEA, says the system builder, home entertainment, consumer electronics and retail arenas are strategic growth markets for Maxtor.
"With its experience as a broad base distributor and OEM manufacturer of PCs and servers, Sahara will help Maxtor advance its presence in SA to increase demand and sales in these key areas," he adds.
Gupta agrees, noting that Maxtor's SCSI products, in particular, will prove immensely beneficial to Sahara's newly introduced server division.
"The increasing need for larger and faster servers, workstations and storage subsystems in SA is addressed by Maxtor's line of SCSI drives," he says. "With products like the Atlas 10K and Atlas 15K SCSI families now being available locally, Sahara has the performance and reliability to generate significant competitive advantages."
Maxtor offers a broad selection of external and internal desktop and server drives to meet a demand for large capacity and high performance storage necessitated by media-intensive applications. Its range of products, which vary from personal storage devices to enterprise-appropriate solutions, offer flexibility of scale and quality for Sahara's customers.
"The Maxtor distribution agreement complements our existing line of storage solutions," says Gupta. "As one of the fastest growing distributors in the country, we want to be able to offer our end-users access to the product with competitive pricing. This agreement reinforces our commitment to provide solutions that represent value to our customers."
Sahara Computers locally assembles and markets the Sahara-branded PC via the reseller channel, and with its best of breed components, was the winner of CRN SA's Outlook 2002 "Components Distributor of the Year Award". Sahara has branches in Midrand (head office), Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth, with partners throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Sahara is the official distributor for a variety of international vendors, including Asus, Samsung, Creative, AMD, Microsoft, SMC Networks, Lexmark, Epson and Delta.
