Sahara toasts Indian Merchant Chamber at centenary celebration

Johannesburg, 10 Aug 2007

The Sahara Group, a Proudly South African global supplier of information, communication and digital lifestyle technology, recently hosted dignitaries and high profile officials from India at a banquet to celebrate the Indian Merchant Chamber's (IMC) centenary year.

Following the success of the India South Africa Business Conclave, entitled India Calling 2007, held recently in Johannesburg, Gauteng, Sahara paid tribute to all those who consistently contribute towards improved trade relations between the two countries.

"We are particularly proud of Sahara's involvement in helping to cement ties between these two vibrant and developing economies. It is our belief that this conclave serves to strengthen the bond between South Africa and India, and this can only have positive results," comments Atul Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of Sahara.

"It bodes well for the growth of the emerging business sector in both countries," he adds.

The IMC (www.imcnet.org) is an established business organisation located in the Western region of India and was formed in 1907 at a time of political turmoil. It is described as the Premier Chamber of Trade, Commerce and Industry.

Its central vision and mission is based on the objective of building the country's socio-economic portfolio across the world through networked global trade and commerce opportunity.

The India Calling 2007 Conclave was held at the beginning of August and opened by South African president Thabo Mbeki. It provided a forum for interaction between SMEs from India and South Africa to interact and discuss strategy and emerging opportunity.

"It was encouraging to see the level of interest and participation at the conference and the banquet was a fitting conclusion to what was a successful, business-building initiative," adds Gupta.
