Samsung is encouraging South Africans to get involved in the 'Doodle for Nelson Mandela Day' campaign, a charity-cum-brand promotion drive on its Facebook page.

Samsung introduced the campaign in association with the Nelson Mandela Foundation last year. It requires consumers to 'Like' the Samsung Mobile SA Facebook page, and then go to the 'Doodle and Win' link to create their own artwork on the Galaxy Note tool.

Users will be able to create and upload their own doodle for Mandela, with every image matched by a R5 investment from Samsung. The total money raised will be divided between the development of another solar-powered school by Samsung, and various charities involved in the rollout of libraries. The aim is to drive access to information and for underprivileged children to gain the required reading skills.

Those interested can get involved this weekend at the Samsung Galaxy Note Studio Programme, being held at Fountain Court, in Sandton City, from 10 to 12 February. The Galaxy Note will be available for visitors to create their doodles, and these will automatically be uploaded to the Web site.

“We encourage consumers to become ambassadors of the message to create the impact that we are hoping to achieve through this project,” says Deon Liebenberg, MD of Samsung SA.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Studio Programme will visit nine other malls across the country in upcoming months.

The Doodle for Nelson Mandela campaign is live on the Samsung Web site and is still open to consumers to upload their images.
