Samsung Electronics Co, a leading mobile phone provider, has hosted a South African bada developer day. The event, hosted in Johannesburg, served to officially launch the bada platform as well as the South African component of the bada developer competition.
bada is an Open Mobile Operating System created by Samsung. Conceptually, it has been designed to provide the greatest flexibility possible for third party developers while maintaining the ability to be rapidly deployed onto lower cost devices.
bada has been designed with the ability to support multiple kernels at its core. This will give Samsung the ability to create true smartphones at accessible price points. Democratising the smartphone market creates a win-win situation for consumers and software developers. Developers will be able to create rich applications for a very wide range of price points, enabling their application to be deployed on a much bigger device base. Consumers will benefit by having the richest mobile applications on lower cost devices, bringing the true potentials of mobile computing to the masses.
Samsung unveiled the bada SDK (Software Development Kit) 1.0.0b2, used for application development for bada platform to the public at the beginning of May.
This event is intended to encourage bada application development and assist relevant developers and their communities. It is structured around bada platform introduction, programming samples configured for specific technologies and applications based on bada platform SDK, and a variety of demonstrations using real mobile phones.
It will also provide overall introductions to 'Samsung Apps', which is Samsung's application store, and Samsung application certification process to help developers understand certification and sale procedures.
Samsung is hosting a series of bada developer days in more than 20 countries this year. Samsung intends to build up diverse developer support systems, including online and offline courses for bada platform and development support service via 'bada developers', which is a bada developer site (http://developer.bada.com/).
Registrations for participants will be available on bada developer site (http://developer.bada.com/). This event is open to any developer and there is no registration fee. There will be a number of lucky draws in which participants can win generous gifts.
