Samsung Electronics SA has rolled out a new portfolio of energy-efficient heating and cooling products for home, small office and enterprise use.
Included in the Digital Air line-up are the Jungfrau, DVM Plus IV and Eco-Heating solutions, which are designed to reduce energy consumption and provide 'air modification as a service' in a variety of settings, says Samsung.
According to Michael Mckechnie, business leader of Digital Air Solutions at Samsung SA, there was a gap in the market for energy-efficient heating and cooling products, “especially if we consider not only the shortage of affordable electricity, but also the focus for businesses to become more green”.
With this in mind, the DVM Plus IV, Samsung's industrial solution, features a double-fan system that increases the airflow rate by 30%. Suited to large-scale environments such as hotels, warehouses and office buildings, the DVM Plus is also 38% lighter than conventional models, and reduces the footprint space typically used by similar units by 41%.
In addition, it has a multi-step diagnose function, which includes several operation status checks and a data backup plan. Should the outdoor unit malfunction at any point, this function will automatically diagnose the problem and recover the last 30 minutes of operational data, so the product never stops working.
For smaller work environments, the Eco-Heating solution is a three-in-one heat pump system that claims a reduction in running costs of 33% compared to a gas boiler. According to Samsung, it lowers heating and cooling costs by providing various combinations of air and water methods to meet different needs during the four seasons. It also promises price and space reductions of up to 50%, with an outdoor unit capable of both air-to-water and air-to-air functions, so one saves on the additional installation fees and space needed for an extra outdoor unit.
Finally, for homes, home-based offices and regular offices, the Jungfrau solution is designed to reduce energy consumption and provide cleaner air by means of a smart inverter. It also allows consumers to save energy whether the device is on or off. For example, when the unit is turned off, an improved control board consumes low dosages of energy that uses no standby power and saves consumers up to 90% more energy than conventional air conditioners, says Samsung.
Mckechnie says Samsung plans to bring a number of energy-efficient products to market, with current examples including the Deep Foam washing machine featuring Eco Bubble technology, its solar-powered netbook, and many digital appliances, Visual Display and IT solution products.
“In the Digital Air Solutions division, we are forever changing, with 2012 seeing further launches of highly energy-efficient air conditioning, sanitary hot water and heating products for residential and commercial applications.”
He adds that Samsung has noticed a growing move towards more eco-conscious consumers. “However, in SA and Africa, the benefits of these eco-mannerisms are still not completely understood and the cost saving associated therewith are not yet as openly recognised by consumers.
“It is therefore critical that we as a business continue to demonstrate the cost savings and environmental benefits of these products to ensure that we gain a more solid following and buy-in. From a business perspective, there is no doubt that we are advancing quickly in this regard, where the benefit of eco-friendly and efficient products are driving business continuity and profitability.”
