Samsung has released a host of notebook ranges in SA.

The company has been manufacturing notebook components as an OEM for many of the large notebook vendors for about 12 years already, but only started branding their own models three to four years ago.

“Samsung has done extensive market research into what consumers are looking for in notebooks, and believe that it has found the right mix. And now it is bringing these exciting products to SA and the rest of the globe,” says Gavin Slavin, product manager for notebooks at Samsung SA.

The company is bringing six families of notebooks to the market. There is the NC-series, which includes mini notebooks with 10-inch to 12-inch form factors, as well as a netbook. The R-Series notebooks, which Slavin says are “the all-rounders, with a perfect balance of price and performance”, will also be released.

The Q-Series is focused on mobility, but with a bigger form factor than the mini-notebooks, and the X-Series is made up of Samsung's top-end products, the company says.

Also on the way is the G-Series, which are gamers' notebooks, and feature top-end graphics and LCD screens. Lastly, the P-Series notebooks are aimed at the professional business users. Slavin says: “These are designed for driving down TCO and have longer life cycles.”

The notebooks are available from this weekend at DionWired stores countrywide, says Slavin, but they will be available from other retailers in the near future.

The entry-level NC10 mini-notebook will from R6 999 and the high-end X460 from R18 000.
