Samsung releases HDD
The newest means of storage from Samsung may look like a flash drive, but it is actually an HDD, says HTLounge.
The Spinpoint A1 hard disks are compact flash card-sized hard drives, with store capacities of either 30GB or 40GB.
The drives allow for significantly higher storage capacity in a small space.
NEC is 'most exciting'
NEC, a provider of IT, network and identity management solutions, has been cited as one of the technology providers having the most exciting storage products/services, according to Business Wire.
This is according to TheInfoPro's (TIP) "Most Exciting Storage Vendor" list, which was driven by NEC's emergence as a Top 5 "in-pilot" vendor for de-duplication technology deployments among enterprise buyers.
TIP's "Most Exciting Storage Vendor" list is part of its Wave 10 Storage Study, which details technology adoption trends and timeframes, management techniques, and vendor performance data for the storage industry.
Flash drives mobile storage
The advent of flash-based primary storage is likely to be one of the most significant changes to mobile computing in 2008 as prices fall, capacities rise and speeds accelerate, says VNUNet.
Flash has been an increasingly important medium for secondary storage over the past decade, helped by growing sales of digital cameras and music players, but only a few devices have used the technology to directly replace a PC hard drive.
These have included Samsung's Q1 Ultra line of ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs) and Sony's Vaio UX, both of which use a 32GB solid state disk (SSD).
