Samsung releases Series 9
Samsung Electronics has released its new Series 9 TVs, taking consumers to the pinnacle of current TV technology, reports Al Bawaba.
The new series of Full HD LCD TVs packs all of the latest technological innovations in picture quality, design, and advanced media solutions that define Samsung's leadership in the flat panel TV industry.
The company's smart LED technology is at the heart of the series, providing the truest blacks and the highest contrasts available today.
NEC Display to stay
NEC Display "is not going anywhere", says NEC Display president Pierre Richer, according to PCmag.
The company is not exiting the LCD monitor business, although it has pared down its product line from 100 products to between 50 or 60, according to Richer.
"You hear the word LCD, and everyone thinks monitor; it's only components" that are being affected, he says.
Imax steps up 3D investment
Imax is to step up its roll-out of cinemas capable of showing 3D films in an effort to take advantage, as other cinema owners slow their investment plans in response to the recession, reports the Financial Times.
The US group, which is upgrading its trademark large screens from film to digital projectors capable of showing 2D and 3D films, plans to open 100 screens worldwide in 2009, and to increase its estate from 350 to 600 screens within three to four years, according to Rich Gelfond, its chief executive.
The mass adoption of 3D screens has been delayed by haggling between studios and cinema owners over how to share the cost of new digital projectors.
