
Sandcastle goes open source
Microsoft has released all of the source code used in its Sandcastle project, which is now published at the CodePlex open source developer's Web site, says Application Development Trends.
Sandcastle helps developers of managed class libraries create uniform documentation on their projects, using MSDN style.
The Sandcastle project made the news in early June when Sam Ramji, Microsoft's open source software lab director, ordered Sandcastle yanked from CodePlex.
Open source phone released
OpenMoko will release its Linux-based smartphone in the US, reports Smart Brief.
It is a touch-screen device that will include WiFi, assisted GPS and Bluetooth technology, the company said.
Dubbed the "Neo FreeRunner", the fully modifiable handset will ship initially with only basic features installed while OpenMoko urges developers to write and install their own applications to the open source operating system.
Netgear reveals router
Netgear joined a select band of network equipment makers after announcing the release of an open source wireless router, designed to be highly customisable, says Techworld.com.
The WGR614L Wireless G router is being touted as a highly flexible piece of equipment for both the open source community and tech enthusiasts.
To this end, Netgear has also announced a community portal called My Open Router to encourage programmers to customise and write applications for the WGR614L.
