SanDisk: Still far to go

At first sight the SanDisk Digital Audio Player looks like the best thing yet, but one finds out very quickly that it might be a little overrated.

Firstly, the capacity, which would have seemed like a great deal a couple of years ago seems to a quite small for today`s lover of music on the go.

1GB does not mean much these days, especially if you are going to store music as well as use the device as a Dictaphone-type recording device.

Then we move on to price: for a commodity that retails for more than R2000, one expects a little more than just the features that this offers. In today`s market, you can get much more by adding just a few more R100 notes on the top of this device.

Basically, it is a little more than overpriced for what if offers the user at the end of the day.

On the upside, and one would assume that this is because it is a digital device, it has very good sound quality, both when playing imported files or ones that are recorded through its built-in microphone.

16+hours / 240 songs of MP3
32+ hours / 480 songs of WMA
Digital FM tuner
Includes carrying case with armband, earphones and software.

The radio reception is also quite outstanding, provided one is standing in the right area of coverage.

On the down side, one finds that it has no sound level adjustments and this is essential for the sound enthusiasts. What is music if its levels cannot be set to your personal preferences?

In as far as size and design are concerned, it gets a head`s up, but is does not have much going for it when it comes to capacity and functionality.

Nice try SanDisk, but we know you can do much better on the next one.
