Santa shops for IT at Digital Planet.co.za

Johannesburg, 22 Jan 2004

Digital Planet, SA`s leading online IT business, has reported a 46% increase in IT sales across its retail sites for the 2003 festive season. This compares to IT sales generated over the 2002 November-December period.

Says Neil Watson, joint managing director at Digital Planet: "Browsers are now converting to buyers. This is because of the general increase in online buying confidence, as well as the additional features and value-added services that we have added across our Web sites."

Accessories which appear on the same page as relevant products, is one of the features that has increased the average basket size from 1.7-to-2 items, and the average basket value to R2 400.

Digital cameras, MP3 players, Bluetooth adapters, computer games and laptops were the top sellers by units sold. The top sellers by turnover included laptops, digital cameras, computer games, PCs and MP3 players.

Digital Planet`s Web site traffic or page impressions increased by 25% from the previous year. "Although this falls in line with what we expected, we did see increased competition which resulted in our December traffic and sales volumes not reaching capacity. However, we have grown and feel warmed up for the real Internet boom which should happen this year."
