SAOUG offers opportunity to bridge skills gap for BEE Oracle solution providers, professionals

By New Dawn Technologies
Johannesburg, 23 Sept 2003

The South African Oracle User Group (SAOUG) conference is an ideal forum for previously disadvantaged technology professionals to hone their knowledge and refine their expertise of the world`s foremost database and applications vendors.

Taking place at Sun City from 6 to 8 October, the annual event has been designed to offer delegates wide exposure to Oracle expertise from critical independent industry gurus.

"Hosted by the SAOUG, which is independent of Oracle, the conference cuts through the hype to expose the real issues that face companies using the vendor`s products and technologies. As such, this event is an ideal opportunity for previously disadvantaged delegates to gain knowledge of the intricacies of Oracle technology," comments Bryan Roestorf, SAOUG chairman.

Additionally, he says, it will provide an environment ripe for the exchange of ideas and the creation of new business relationships.

Thapelo Ramarumo, business development manager of black-owned company New Dawn Technologies, notes that the organisation has chosen Oracle as a strategic partner and is participating in the conference, as it believes the event offers his company significant value.

"Having identified the Oracle platform as a powerful solution set for the South African market, we believe the SAOUG conference is the ideal platform to get closer to Oracle users. By attending and participating, we can learn and understand general customer needs and better scope the challenges to extracting maximum value from the Oracle technology, and hopefully tap into the existing Oracle customer base for future business. This, we believe, will equip our company with the knowledge to deliver the solutions that customers need," he explains.

Solution provider NamITech is sponsoring the attendance fees of four previously disadvantaged technology students to the event. "NamITech has a strong empowerment drive, as evidenced by the company recently acquiring an AA Premium rating from EmpowerDEX. As part of our commitment to this process, and because of our close relationship with Oracle SA, we have decided to sponsor four students to attend the upcoming SAOUG conference," says Glenda Babaya, Executive Director Corporate Services at NamITech.

"We believe the students will benefit greatly from attending such a high-level technology forum, and NamITech in turn benefits as these students enter the ICT sector with the correct skills and knowledge. We are excited about this sponsorship and look forward to the event," she adds.

The SAOUG has secured the input of key Oracle experts, including the Oak Table Network, several high-profile local and international Oracle users as well as speakers from Oracle Corporation. "The knowledge exchange that this diverse agenda promises, will be key to adding value in fundamental areas, allowing us to go to market confident in the solutions we offer," says Ramarumo.

In addition to the many sessions and content, the conference includes an exhibition from Oracle partners, vendors and users, making it the prime event for Oracle users to interact, learn and gain knowledge to improve the performance of their businesses.

"We would like to encourage companies that work with Oracle solutions to participate in the event by giving their previously disadvantaged employees the opportunity to benefit from the conference and gain the insight and knowledge that it has to offer," concludes Roestorf.
