SAP adopts virtualisation
German software maker SAP is adopting virtualisation software from Citrix to help it cut server running costs and cut carbon emissions, says eWeek Europe.
In a recent statement, SAP said it will be virtualising around 500 servers using Citrix XenServer by the middle of this year.
The ERP specialist also said it intends to deploy Citrix XenApp virtualisation technology to help deliver internal applications to employees and partners.
Tesco virtualises sales systems
Tesco has virtualised its main real-time sales systems as the first step of a plan to increase application capacity and reduce data centre costs, reports vnunet.
The systems were migrated to the virtual environment using Citrix XenServer software running on HP blade servers.
Use of the technology has already provided benefits to the business such as a 75% increase in the application capacity to 1 500 sales-related messages per second.
Nohau declares Sysgo product availability
Nohau revealed the availability of three Sysgo software products for mission-critical applications, the products are claimed to be suitable for high-reliability solutions in military, aerospace, transportation and medical application areas, states Electronics Talk.
The first, Pikeos, is a virtualisation platform providing an embedded systems environment in which multiple virtual machines can run simultaneously.
This secure virtualisation technology is intended to allow multiple operating system APIs to run independently and concurrently on one machine, such as an Arinc-653 application, together with Linux.
