SAP head tech exec resigns

In a surprise announcement, Shai Agassi, president of SAP's product and technology group, has resigned. Pegged as a possible successor to SAP CEO Henning Kagermann, Agassi is leaving software in favour of a potential move to the alternative-energy sector, reports news.com.

SAP said yesterday that, as of the end of the week, Agassi will no longer be president of the company's product and technology group. At present, Leo Apotheker is acting as deputy CEO, and a new executive council will take charge on Sunday.

"While we regret Shai's decision to leave, we congratulate him on his record of achievement at SAP," said Hasso Plattner, company founder and chairman of the SAP supervisory board.

Intel unveils plans for 2008

In 2008, Intel will unveil a new chip blueprint, integrate critical system components and bring back hyperthreading technology, says news.com.

Intel executives have previously spoken in broad terms about integrating components, such as the memory controller and direct links between processor cores. However, those technologies are waiting for Nehalem, the chip family Intel will start producing in 2008.

The company said it views Nehalem as the first dynamically scalable micro-architecture.

Research rattles virtualisation

CA research reveals the benefits of virtualisation can be difficult to measure, reports computing.co.uk.

It said 44% of large organisations that have deployed server virtualisation technology could not unequivocally call their deployment a success.

Seventy-one percent of the 800 international organisations that have moved ahead with virtualisation said they have installed, or plan to install, multiple server virtualisation technologies. This includes operating system and hardware virtualisation and operating system partitioning.
