SAP SA offers to buy back accounting package licences

Johannesburg, 15 May 2007

SAP South Africa will buy back the accounting package licence fee of any small or medium business attending this week's Futurex exhibition that switches to one of the global business software leader's full-spectrum solutions for SMEs.

Says Derek Kudsee, SAP's SME Director: "We are confident that an SAP solution makes better sense than any accounting software package.

"There are affordable options, such as Business One solutions, that offer smaller companies consolidation of their sales right through to their finance processes and that enable them to manage their businesses more efficiently and cost effectively.

"We are so confident that we are prepared to buy out the licence fee of any of the 15 000 company representatives who travel to Sandton for Futurex and who switch to one of our solutions for small or medium businesses."

He adds that the days of SAP being seen as only for large enterprise are well and truly in the past. "In fact, 65% of SAP's customers around the world are already in the SME space," says Kudsee.

The SME market is central to SAP's goal of growing from around 36 000 to 100 000 business customers by 2010.

That kind of growth has to be fuelled largely by growing SAP's strength in the SME market. He says the company is driving hard into this area with leading-edge products and a network of partners carefully selected on the basis of their knowledge and experience in particular industry sectors.

"Our experience over the past couple of years has been that growing companies and those that want to keep growing are interested more in how an integrated business software solution is going to make them money and save them money, rather than in the old arguments about price or complexity," says Kudsee.

SAP's SME operation in SA grew revenue by 176% last year and is targeting a further 80% growth this year.

"This relatively quick penetration into the SME sector has further persuaded us that we have a compelling offering that delivers better value and results to any small or medium sized company running a standalone, non-ERP, accounting package. This is why we're prepared to show anyone attending Futurex not only how confident we are, but that we are serious about enabling them to continue growing."

This offer is subject to the licensing of a minimum of five user licences of SAP Business One software, and is valid from 15 May to 18 May 2007. The buy-back offer applies only to accounting packages intended for use in small or medium businesses and is limited to the equivalent of five user licenses of the applicable software.
