SAP to buy Sybase

SAP has agreed to buy Sybase for $5.8 billion, writes eWeek.

The acquisition will give SAP mobile and cloud computing technology for mobile and device memory management, the domain of Sybase. It will also bring new revenue streams and strategic technology to help SAP stay competitive.

"Mobile devices are becoming the preferred interaction point with business applications, whether the user is a factory supervisor, a manager or an entrepreneur in a development nation," says Jim Hagemann Snabe, co-CEO of SAP.

Citrix unveils XenClient

Citrix has released a client-side hypervisor that runs directly on a desktop or laptop PC called XenClient, reports Channel Web.

The new Xen client enables central management of desktops and provides more flexibility for companies. "This brings the desktop virtualisation world to the 30% to 40% of enterprise users whose primary access is through laptops," says Wes Wasson, chief marketing officer at Citrix.

Citrix has shipped 1.5 million copies of the desktop virtualisation software Xen Desktop 4.

IBM acquires Cast Iron

IBM has acquired Cast Iron Solutions, states Destination CRM. The acquisition allows IBM to leverage Cast Iron's software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications.

Cloud Iron's solution was designed to enable clients to integrate cloud-based and SaaS applications with the rest of the enterprise in a short period of time.

"We're an industry leader in integrating services and applications and everything else that organisations need to integrate these days," says Steve Mello, IBM director of worldwide product marketing. "Cast Iron allows us to extend that leadership."
