SAP UK has selected Cape-based asset management consultancy PRAGMA Holdings` asset management improvement program, AMiP, as one of the packaged services it offers to provide a best-practice solution, grow the maturity of plant maintenance and enhance asset performance in the UK.
SAP`s packaged service concept is designed as a value-added service to SAP clients, providing an off-the-shelf solution to specific requirements to unlock the full business potential from SAP investments, says Simon Keay, business development manager at SAP UK.
German-headquartered SAP is the world`s largest provider of enterprise-class software.
AMiP, renamed by SAP as the plant maintenance (PM) improvement program packaged service, provides a methodology for a best-practices framework for plant management in the engineering sector, improving the management of the maintenance and production function for optimal return on investment (ROI).
The packaged service, a concept initiated by SAP UK which, once proven successful, will be released to SAP worldwide, covers an assessment of current maintenance and administration practices, the development of a PM improvement strategy, a work session to identify key issues, and the training of relevant personnel on the various facets of PM. Benefits include improved ROI from the SAP PM system, the provision of a practical model for change management and training, improved plant effectiveness, reduced downtime and increased productivity.
"There`s a great deal of hype across the business spectrum about rapid ROI, but that is not what companies should be focusing on," says Keay. "The emphasis should be less on speed and more on visibility - people need to see ROI in order to appreciate it.
"Asset management is often treated as an exercise that has to be done for auditing purposes. Instead the focus should be on seeing the tangible value it can achieve for the company. That is one of the aspects PRAGMA`s AMiP methodology will help us deliver to SAP customers."
Keay says the packaged service, which is set at a fixed price with a 30-day delivery guarantee, will ensure customers of delivery on three levels: it will show where the investment opportunity is, provide guidelines on how to achieve that return and provide a structured plan on how to monitor visible ROI.
PRAGMA is negotiating an additional service designed around the ON KEY asset performance management system (APMS) as a machine execution system (MES) solution, for inclusion in SAP UK`s selection of packaged services due to be released in September.
"SAP has sole rights to market and distribute the PM improvement strategy, while any follow-up requirements from clients will be executed by PRAGMA," says Adriaan Scheeres, of Pragma Holdings. "This development provides us with a springboard for expansion into international markets."
