Software company, SAP has added mobility, social media and collaboration tools to its latest edition of the Business Suite solution, in a move it says aims at helping organisations cut costs in their business processes.
This is according to Ken Hamel, senior VP for SAP global customer solutions and pre-sales, who addressed delegates at a recent SAP forum.
He pointed to technologies such as VOIP, mobility, social media, collaboration and social analytics that are fundamentally changing the way many industries operate.
“Change is powered by technology and connectivity. Radio took 38 years to get 50 million listeners; the Internet took four years to reach the same number of people; television took 13 years; and Facebook took two years,” he notes.
SAP recently rolled out the next generation of its Business Suite software to customers in SA - Business Suite 7 Innovations 2010.
Says Hamel: “There are three major drives that SAP is working on. The first is device management, by using data and analytics to securely distribute information to mobile devices.
“SAP is also investing in solutions that analyse vast amounts of unstructured information to enable organisations to make smarter business decisions. We are also introducing technology that brings social networking into the enterprise, in order to streamline business processes, while enhancing collaboration and knowledge-sharing.”
According to the company, Business Suite 7 Innovations enables businesses to deploy industry-specific end-to-end processes that cut across applications. It also has analytics tools embedded within the software to help organisations address business challenges without costly upgrades.
SAP has captured more than 56% of the market share in the business application space in medium and large enterprises in SA, according to Freek Malherbe, head of industry solutions, SAP Africa.
