ATI and AMD global partner, Sapphire Technologies, has appointed Len Nery as its new South African country manager.
Nery takes the reins from outgoing country head Jaco Laubscher, who has accepted a position as South African representative for AMD.
“I feel like a runner on the starting blocks, as I am excited to be playing a role to further the Sapphire brand in SA,” says Nery.
Laubscher says he is comfortable he has left the Sapphire brand in good hands. “Len certainly has the drive and commitment to ensure Sapphire grows its footprint in SA.”
Nery comes from his position as sales and marketing manager of the gaming publication, NAG magazine, where he has been for the last 10 years. During this time, he also owned and managed game event business Arena 77 and the online portal LANGames.
“My aim will be to build on the strong relationships we already have within the industry and to ensure we deliver on the levels of service Sapphire customers have come to expect from us,” adds Nery.
Laubscher's position as local AMD representative follows the company's decision to scale down the local operation.
Following the example of many international businesses, AMD closed the local office in April, and now manages local sales and marketing as it did before the South African operation was installed.
Dr Gaith Kadir, AMD EMEA sales director, has taken over the top level responsibilities for the region, while Laubscher will manage the day-to-day operations. Despite these changes, the company says its commitment to the South African market will remain unchanged.
