Saratoga announces empowerment deal with Sekunjalo

Saratoga Software has concluded a significant black economic empowerment deal with Sekunjalo.

JSE-listed Sekunjalo is a black owned, managed and controlled company with operations in fishing, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, information technology and financial services with global operations in London and Mauritius.

Sekunjalo Information Technology Division (SITCA) will acquire a majority share in Saratoga Software, a growing Cape Town-based software and services company.

SITCA has acquired Synergy Consulting and FIOS, which are also information technology companies, and sees this dynamic sector as a key driver for its future growth.

Sekunjalo envisions creating a complete information technology offering of services and solutions to cater for the South African market. Saratoga's strengths complement the businesses that are currently in the SITCA stable and will provide an excellent opportunity to leverage their unique capabilities.

SITCA's vision for a complete information technology company requires the capability to create intellectual property and products that the entire group can utilise and Saratoga possess the expertise and experience to fulfil this important role.

"Collectively the operating businesses in our ICT division have a client base that covers the majority of South Africa's large corporates. We see significant upside in our ability to cross-sell products and solutions into the combined client base," says Norman Noland, Sekunjalo Investments deputy chief executive officer.

Saratoga Software has developed innovative software within the emerging call centre industry where its Fuzion product is positioned to capture a major proportion of new business in this sector. HROnline, Saratoga's self-service human resource product which uses the Internet to streamline and increase the efficiency of human resources processes and is currently being used in blue chip South African companies such as Alexander Forbes, National Brands Limited and the Sekunjalo Group. Saratoga is acknowledged as a leading utility software and mobile development company in the country. It was selected by the DTI to create a suite of mobile productivity tools known as the Shine Initiative which should greatly improve the efficiency of municipalities and allow them to deliver services effectively.
