The South African Revenue Services (SARS) has awarded a one year term contract worth R 12-million to Choice Technologies for the provision and installation of a cabling infrastructure and network electronics in SARS offices in KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, Free State, North West Province and the Northern Cape.
Choice Technologies is a 51% black-owned networking solutions company formed in a joint venture with the DNS Group.
The network, which will use more than 500 km of computer cabling, together with 16 000 electrical, 4000 data, and 2000 voice points will carry both voice and data traffic.
Choice, in association with DNS Services (a DNS Group company) will undertake a comprehensive user audit prior to the cabling installation designed to produce a detailed hardware and software inventory.
Choice and DNS have also assisted SARS in its movement of users to the new operating environment linking new, high performance PC workstations to the network.
Commenting on the SARS contract, Choice MD Semela Tseka says that his company has the skills necessary to provide the highest levels of technical excellence in the field of computer networking and allied disciplines.
"Through the joint venture relationship with the DNS Group we are able to offer our customers leading-edge network solutions and services and best of breed products.
"We employ many skilled young blacks from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. They benefit from contracts such as the SARS project to widen their technical skills and experience in project management."
