The South African Revenue Services (SARS) has signed with a Global Technology Business Intelligence (GBI)-led alliance for a multimillion-rand data warehouse, query and trend analysis solution.
GBI has teamed up with black empowerment IT company Lechabile and IBM SA to bring data warehousing solutions to its customers, and the SARS tender is the first major win for the alliance.
The project is set to run for 30 weeks, and the first deliverable has gone live.
GBI is the business intelligence solutions specialist in the JSE-listed Global Technology group, while Lechabile specialises in IT solutions in the high-end IBM mainframe market.
"The alliance, with IBM as the hardware and software provider, Lechabile as the project management partner and GBI with the focused business intelligence experience, fitted with SARS` demand for a holistic solution," says Di King, strategic alliance manager at GBI.
"SARS expressed the desire for one point of responsibility for a totally integrated architecture, avoiding the problems inherent in dealing with and co-ordinating a number of different vendors," says King.
The new data warehouse will run on an IBM 390 CMOS mainframe, says Zainul Nagdee, Lechabile`s sales GM.
"SARS will use the system primarily for its VAT systems," says Nagdee. "It will allow trend analysis and provide an understanding of the customer/business relationship."
Providing the business intelligence and general query facilities will be the responsibility of GBI, adds King. "The alliance has brought together the expertise from the different companies for the benefit of SARS, in a way where they will draw on the experience and focus of Lechabile, the technology and capability of GBI and the stability and globalisation of IBM," she concludes.
The alliance is working with a number of other customers to provide similar solutions to them.
