SAS appoints head of energy sector for AME region

As part of ongoing investment into the region, business intelligence giant SAS Institute has announced the appointment of Peter C Venn as the head of its Energy Practice for Africa and the Middle East.

"The energy sector is a key focus for SAS in the region, as it has a growing number of customers both in the oil and traditional energy producer markets," says Bill Hoggarth, CEO of SAS Institute Africa and Middle East.

"SAS' solutions are designed to cater for specific industry sector needs, understanding that the requirements per sector can differ vastly from others. The appointment of Venn is designed to better cater for the exacting needs of new and existing clients in this sector."

The SAS solutions for the oil and gas and utility industries combine software and best-practice services to transform masses of data about operations, suppliers, risks, assets and profitability into strategic enterprise intelligence - the fuel for competitive advantage.

"Energy is a key, if not one of the most key, growth sectors within the Africa and Middle East regions. Customers in this field are demanding better data about their operations, and superior information upon which to base more quantifiable business decisions," states Venn.

"Over the past 20 years or so, these businesses have implemented a series of robust enterprise business applications, without much thought as to how they can tie the data from these together," adds Venn. "In my new position I will be able to spend time showing these players how, by using SAS, they can best benefit by using the data they have at their disposal to create information and knowledge."

Venn will not only be tasked with growing SAS' business in the region, but will be required to fulfil a facilitation role among his peers, by improving and creating closer ties between energy players in Africa and the Middle East.

Ends Hoggarth: "SAS has made the decision globally to adopt a long-term view of the energy sector, and the appointment of Venn is merely the first step in further investing in the sector, and in the region. We wish him and his team every success."
