SAS delivers in-database analytic scoring for IBM DB2

SAS continues to expand its In-Database Initiative with a new software that offers the benefit of in-database analytic processing - SAS Scoring Accelerator for IBM DB2.

Johannesburg, 09 Nov 2010

"This capability will enable our mutual customers to best exploit the advanced technology of IBM InfoSphere Warehouse, powered by DB2," says Bob Hoey, IBM General Manager and SAS partnership executive. “With a tighter integration between IBM Data Warehouse Software and Systems and the SAS technology, our joint customers will be able to reduce the time required to build and deploy vital business models.”

Companies can gain significant competitive advantage by centralising data and reducing data movement. In-database scoring automates model deployment tasks, reduces complexity and latency, as well as allows organisations to use more complex models to obtain reliable results. The end result is proactive evidence-based decisions to support critical operations in areas such as risk, fraud, collections, marketing, and customer management.

"With general availability of SAS Scoring Accelerator for DB2, SAS has taken another significant step for organisations to obtain analytical results quickly and efficiently," said Claudia Imhoff, President and Founder of Intelligent Solutions. "SAS and IBM continue collaborating on in-database efforts to create what organisations have longed for: a high-performance analytics deployment platform."

SAS Scoring Accelerator for DB2 will support more reliable decisions by providing faster access to analytical results. The solution will publish SAS Enterprise Miner models and score data directly within IBM DB2 without the need for manual recoding of scoring routines in order to act on results more quickly. Companies can gain significant competitive advantage by centralising data and reducing data movement. For example, those who evaluated SAS technology on IBM Power Systems and their IBM DB2 enterprise data warehouse found that it allows for rapid deployment of analytic models, as well as real-time scoring at the point of member engagement. It showed that companies can focus their analytical efforts on core model development tasks rather than on manual model deployment tasks.

"With SAS Scoring Accelerator for DB2, SAS scoring processes run inside the IBM data warehouse. As a result, customers can make more accurate and actionable decisions," said Keith Collins, SAS Senior Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer. "This offering furthers efforts to integrate SAS Analytics across leading database vendors. Expanding our in-database activities to IBM DB2 demonstrates SAS' commitment to joint customers."
